Newsflash: Nicholas Rhea Terminally ill
THE author who wrote the books behind the TV series Heartbeat has revealed he has terminal cancer.
Former North Yorkshire policeman Peter Walker, who writes as Nicholas Rhea, has written about 34 Constable books, on which the TV version of Heartbeat was based.
But now the North Yorkshire-based novelist has revealed he was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer earlier this year.
Mr Walker, who used to be a criminal law teacher as well as a police press officer, said he is continuing to write, despite the onset of the disease. Asked what were his greatest achievements, he said: "I would say as a man, getting married and raising a family, as an author, getting my first book published."
In the latest novel Constable On The Coast by Nicholas Rhea (Robert Hale, £7.99), Nick leaves his haunts in Aidensfield to help out busier colleagues elsewhere.

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE HEARTBEAT PRODUCTION TEAM
Thank You Heartbeat from my wife and I for making our Wedding so special.

THANK YOU HEARTBEAT PRODUCTION TEAM AND TO THE AIDENSFIELD STORES!!!!
I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU on behalf of my wife and I who were married on the 3rd of November in St Mary's church in Goathland.
As we left the church the Police car (Kindly lent by the Aidensfield Stores) which has been seen in many episodes of Heartbeat, was waiting to take us to our reception at the Inn on the Moor.
Its driver was wearing a genuine Police costume that had been sent by courier from the Heartbeat production team at no cost! and made our exit from the Church such a memorable occassion.
Thank you to everyone, we truly had the best day of our lives, THANK YOU!!!
